After three consecutive years, during which time Nature failed to produce sugar maple seed, it appears 2016 will be different for our nursery friends in central and southwestern Ontario.
The period between good seed crops ranges from 3-5 years across most of sugar maple’s range in Ontario and Quebec.
The yellowish cast that can be seen is the pendulous clusters of flowers that appear over the entire crown of mature sugar maple trees in early May, just before leaves start to develop.
