National Capital Commission CEO Mark Kristmanson sent us this note and photo:
“I thought you might enjoy the attached photo showing the planting of a “TRUE” Canadian maple on the official site of the War or 1812 Monument.
Soil samples from 10 key War of 1812 battlefield sites, as well as water samples from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, Lake Champlain and some of the Great Lakes, were poured at the base of an Acer rubrum red maple tree.
[written:] The photo shows Minister [of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages] Shelly Glover on the left and Adrienne Alison the sculptor on the right. This is the first maple planting since [our] meeting.”
